Beyond the fairways. Capturing the character of UGC 'De Pan'.

A golf club is more than its course. Together with photographer Sophie Saddington, we set out to capture the details, spaces and traditions that make UGC 'De Pan' unmistakably itself. A photography project focused on bringing the club's identity to life, beyond the fairways.

When it comes to golf photography, the course naturally takes centre stage. Rolling fairways, perfectly maintained greens and the changing colours of the seasons. They are the images that first capture a golfer's attention.

But what makes a golf club truly memorable often lies beyond the course itself.

The clubhouse, the trophies collected over generations, the familiar corners of the restaurant and the small details that members recognise instantly. Together, they tell a story that course photography alone cannot.

For our client UGC 'De Pan', we wanted to tell that story. So we teamed up with photographer Sophie Saddington to capture the character of one of the Netherlands' most iconic golf clubs, from a different perspective.

More than a beautiful golf course

A strong digital presence should reflect the complete club experience. While impressive course photography is essential, focusing exclusively on fairways and greens leaves much of a club's identity unseen.

For UGC 'De Pan', that identity is deeply connected to its history, traditions and the atmosphere surrounding the game.

Our objective was to build a photography collection that could bring these elements into focus. From the clubhouse interiors and restaurant to the pro shop, historic trophies and architectural details, we wanted to capture everything that makes the club recognisable to its members and intriguing to those discovering it for the first time.

It was about more than creating beautiful images. It was about translating the club's DNA into visual storytelling.

A photoshoot with a purpose

Good photography starts long before the camera comes out.

Ahead of the shoot, we developed a detailed photography plan, identifying the locations, objects and moments we wanted to capture, and how each image could serve the club's wider content strategy.

We considered composition, atmosphere, lighting and the practical ways the photographs would eventually be used. Some images needed to work as standalone editorial posts, others as supporting visuals for stories, announcements or content about the club's heritage and facilities.

With this creative direction in place, we worked alongside Sophie Saddington, whose expertise in interior and exterior photography made her a natural fit for the project.

Her eye for light, composition and architectural detail helped us capture the clubhouse and its surroundings with the same level of care normally reserved for the course itself.

The result was a carefully curated collection of images that balances visual quality with practical purpose.

Photography that tells a bigger story

The photoshoot delivered a versatile library of imagery, giving both Third Nine and UGC 'De Pan' a valuable collection for future communication.

For us, managing the club's digital channels, these photographs allow us to tell a broader range of stories, introduce more variety into the content and highlight elements of the club that might otherwise go unnoticed.

For UGC 'De Pan', they provide a lasting visual record of its atmosphere, facilities and heritage, captured in a way that feels authentic to the club.

Most importantly, the images give members something familiar to connect with, while offering future guests a glimpse into the experience that awaits them.

Because great golf photography should do more than show where the game is played. It should capture everything that makes a place worth remembering.
